Our Founding Principles

St. John Bosco High School was founded:

  • To establish a school where the Catholic Faith and Christian morality are taught and exemplified. St. John Bosco High School reinforces the Christian morality taught in the home. For this reason, we expect our families to live in a manner that is consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church. We follow the guidelines established by the Catholic Church in this matter.

  • To offer our students a wholesome environment in which to grow in their faith. The spirit of Saint John Bosco High School includes the firm belief that God's Commandments are valid for all men at all times. This is reflected in the life of the school, the dress of the students and teachers, books, music, and projects undertaken. All must be worthy of Christian dignity.

  •  To teach a curriculum which forms students in memory, understanding, and will toward a truly Christian character.

  • To introduce the students to the great works of Christendom and pre-Christendom, with the intention of deepening their faith.

  • To foster spiritual growth through the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy.

All teachers, administrators, and school staff pledge the Profession of Catholic Faith, the Creed, and acknowledge the authority of the Pope, the Magisterium, and our local ordinary, the Archbishop of Portland in Oregon.

The Holy Mass is the center of our sacramental life. Weekly Mass attendance is an integral part of the school week.

The school shall ever be dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God. Our motto shall be "To Jesus through Mary" as she provides the example for our lives as our most perfect Mother.

St. John Bosco High School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, or national origin. The school is a non-profit corporation, with tax-exempt status from the IRS.
